About Me

Hello, my name is Taylor and I am from a small town called Rio Rancho which is just outside Albuquerque, New Mexico (fun fact, it took me almost 18 years to be able to spell Albuquerque correctly, kind of embarrassing). I was born and raised in the Albuquerque/Rio Rancho area and lived there for 18 years before I moved here to Oregon for college. I originally started a degree in ocean science before I quickly decided that was too easy and switched to advanced chemistry, because who doesn't switch to a more difficult major, right

In my free time, I love playing and listening to music. I play the piccolo, concert flute, and alto flute. I originally started on the c flute almost 10 years ago and played it all the way through high school. I joined my high school marching band and did that for all 4 years and then joined the marching band here at Oregon State when I arrived and my main instrument is now the piccolo.

I am also into travel. I have been to a total of ~43 (ish, haven't counted in a while) states, 3 countries, 2 continents, and 2 hemispheres. The most exciting adventure I have had thus far was the summer before my senior year of high school. My best friend and I managed to convince our parents to let us go to Peru alone to spend 2 weeks volunteering at an Amazon ecoreserve. A little interesting fact, I climbed to the top of the highest canopy walkway in Latin America while here, twice! Absolutely terrifying, let me tell you... highly recommend. This photo is from that trip. there were two toucans on the reserve who were rather mischievous. This one in particular loves to cause trouble, that dastardly toucan

  1. Hi, Taylor,

Nice to meet you! I was indifferent to chemistry in high school because I had a terrible teacher for two years, but I love science, so I gave it another chance when I moved to Maryland for my first go-round of college. I was a biology and math double major and worked in a chemistry lab at the University of Maryland. It was so much fun! Also, one of my lifelong friends was a chem major but spends his days running a movie theater, playing violin, and taking incredible photos in Chicago. Another chemistry friend does film and audio production and also takes incredible phots in Seattle. (I suspect that there's a creative link in there somewhere ..."

And what a wonderful adventure in Peru! It's wonderful that you have already experienced so much, and I hope you get to continue traveling and learning. Also, Albuquerque is pretty hard to spell with all those u's!

Thank you for admiring my felted dog. It makes me really happy when people like my handmade items, and this one only took me a day to make! I'm going to felt a sloth for my supervisor next because she is obsessed with them. She brought a mini one for us to play with on Monday, and we couldn't stop laughing because it was so cute! Anyway, if that food truck/craft stand happens, I'll let you know!

    Tien
